How to Make Edible Glue

How to Make Edible Glue for Fondant & Cookie Use

If you’re decorating cookies with fondant and want those personalised details, stamps, and layers to stay put — one of the most important, yet overlooked tools is edible glue. Especially when you’re working with our 3D‑printed stamp & cutter sets, texture rollers or layered fondant pieces, edible glue is what keeps it all together.

🛠 What You’ll Need

  • ¼ teaspoon of Tylose powder (also called CMC)

  • 2 tablespoons of warm water

  • A small airtight jar or container with a lid

  • A clean food‑safe paintbrush

  • Your fondant‑decorated cookie or layered fondant piece ready for glue

🔍 Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  1. Combine the Tylose & Water
In your small container, add the ¼ tsp Tylose powder. Pour in the 2 tbsp warm (not boiling) water. The mixture will look a bit lumpy at first — that’s totally normal.

  2. Stir & Rest
Gently stir to bring the mixture together. Then seal the container and let it rest for 1-2  hours (often much less) in the fridge. During this time it will thicken into a syrup‑like consistency and the lumps will dissolve.

  3. Use the Glue
Dip your clean food‑safe brush lightly into the glue. Apply a small amount where you need it: e.g., the back of a fondant piece, the edge of a cutter impression, or to attach a texture plate layer. Press gently onto your cookie and hold for a few seconds so it sticks.

  4. Storage & Maintenance
Keep the container sealed and store in the fridge. It should last up to 2 weeks. If it gets too thick to brush, add a drop of warm water and stir until workable. If the glue appears cloudy or shows signs of spoilage, discard it and make a fresh batch.

💡 Why It Works & When to Use It

  • When you use one of our 3D‑printed stamp + cutter sets, you might have small raised fondant shapes, layered details or personalised names. These parts can lift if only water is used — edible glue provides that extra “stick” and security.

  • Texture rollers and fondant plates often add depth and detail. That layered depth can create slight gaps — applying glue helps ensure each layer sits flush and firmly.

  • For beginners, using glue means less frustration when parts pop off, so you’ll feel more confident—exactly why you’re here!

✨ Quick Safety & Usage Tips

  • Use only food‑grade powders and water — Tylose is safe for edible use.

  • Don’t over‑apply: a thin layer is enough. Too much glue can seep out and leave visible residue.

  • Work in a cool, dry area — fondant and glue hold better when not overly humid.

  • After decorating, let the glue set for a few minutes before packaging or stacking cookies.

Ready to take your decorated cookies to the next level? With this simple glue trick and your cutter & stamp sets, layering fondant and adding personalised details becomes EASY and reliable.
