How To Make Edible Glue

If you’re working with fondant, edible glue is a must-have in your toolkit. It’s essential for attaching fondant pieces to cookies, sticking details onto other fondant surfaces, or fixing small decorations in place. And the best part? You can make it at home with just two ingredients!

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/4 teaspoon Tylose powder (or CMC powder)
  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • A small jar or airtight container
  • A clean food-safe brush

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Add Tylose Powder to Water
In your container, combine 1/4 tsp of Tylose powder with 2 tbsp of warm (not hot) water.

Step 2: Mix Gently
Stir the mixture gently until the powder starts to dissolve. It will appear clumpy at first—this is totally normal!

Step 3: Let It Sit
Seal the container and let the mixture rest for at least 4–6 hours, or overnight. It will thicken into a syrup-like consistency.

Step 4: Use as Needed
Dip your food-safe brush into the glue and apply it sparingly to attach fondant to cookies or other decorations. A little goes a long way!

Storage Tips:

  • Keep your glue in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • It should last up to 2 weeks.
  • If it gets too thick, add a drop of warm water and stir well.

Alternative Quick-Fix:

Need glue right now and don’t have Tylose? Mix a small amount of fondant with water until it becomes a paste. This works in a pinch!
